Mason Bee cocoons start hatching around March-April. We have supplies and cocoons available for ordering early in the year and should be stored in a 36-38 F fridge until you are ready to set them out to hatch when the temperatures consistently hover around 50 F. At that temperature, the males will hatch first and wait for the females to hatch to mate. Mason Bees have many different subspecies so you should purchase bees based on your location, whether you live on the Western or Eastern US.
Mason bees ship best when the temperatures are cold. Cold temperatures (The cold temperatures keep the cocoons cold enough that they won't emerge during shipment. It is highly recommended to purchase a cold pack when ordering mason bees. It will be shipped with the bees and help keep the temperature controlled during the first day of transit. We recommend choosing the fastest shipping method possible (i.e. UPS Next Day Air, 2nd Day Air or Priority Mail) unless you are picking up from our retail stores.
