Collecting a sample of bees and assessing the mite load has never been this easy. The CO2 injector doses the bees, knocking them unconscious. The mites fall through the divider and can be counted easily. This method does not require the sample of bees to perish. CO2 Container not Included.
To run a test:
-Collect roughly 200 honey bees into the container filling up the largest side. You will want to fill up the container to at least the red line.
-Using the CO2 dispencer, dispurse CO2 into the container for 4-6 seconds through the small hole in the side of the container. The bees should stop moving and seem a little sluggish (it knocks them out but shouldnt' kill them).
-Wait 10-20 seconds then shake the container for 10 seconds, sifting all varroa mites through the filter and down into the smaller portion of the container.
-Open the opposite end to release the mites onto a clean surface (such as a plate) to count and then dump the bees back into the hive. Count your mites."
