Hi, Everyone!

The last time I started bragging about my girls it ended up biting me in the butt. This time, however, is different and my girls deserve so much credit. Remember last time when I checked my hives and how I was frustrated that my girls hadn’t drawn out any comb on the new foundation? Well they went above and beyond to impress me this past Sunday. Not only had they drawn out the foundation but they had packed and capped it with honey! I am so excited! I get to extract honey this year!

I took off the two honey supers to check and see how my queen was doing and there she was, strutting her stuff on the queen excluder. We had a moment then and there. I said, “You are the Bomb!!” and she replied, “I know, we kick butt!”…communication is key to every relationship. She walked right into my queen catcher and I happily sat her off to the side. I don’t think I have ever had an easier hive inspection. Every frame looked great with a good pattern of larvae and capped brood.

Everything was going great until my other hive became jealous and started a robbing frenzy. All the bees started going crazy. If you have never experienced a robbing frenzy just imagine thousands of bees in mid-air attacks. I was panicking, trying to close up my hive before they were robbed out. There was still a massive swarm of bees in the air after I closed up my one hive. I knew I couldn’t go into the other hive until everything settled down so I closed off both hive entrances to the smallest opening possible and walked away. I hope my girls continue their hard work because I intend to extract honey this weekend! I have had heard some positive feedback about our rolling uncapper. I’ll be testing it when I extract this weekend so I will let you know how it turns out.

See you at the Bee Farm!
