Until you have used this, you will never enjoy uncapping. Uncap 40 supers of honey in 3 hours with this machine. Crank the frames through two cutter heads and all cells are opened up. Almost all of the capping stay on the frame making it easeir for the bees (when you put them back on the hive) to repair the comb. This means more honey for you. We now have a instructional DVD that comes with the machine or can be purchased separately. The purchase price of the DVD can be redeemed at the time of purchasing the Sideliner Uncapper.
Watched the video and liked how it appeared to work. Reviews seemed to be split on how well it works. Made a purchase and happy I did. With 25 hives to collect and process honey from, this cut our processing time approximately in half. Important to watch video and adjust the rollers as necessary. Easy to learn how to operate and simple to use.
Purchased 3 years ago.. Over all it sped up my operation of 40+ Hives, its a little quicker but the savings is in effort required to uncap. I uncap twice as many frames in a day because it does more of the work. It is true that you still have to run a rake over the edges and low spots on most of the frames. I think this product needs 4 things to improve. 1. sharp edges on the frame and body need to be rounded off. 2. The Little white blocks keep loosing up, I made new ones with a 3D printer that hold much better. 3. Frames get stuck on rail because the rails are to short. 4. It needs to have an adjustable chain tension built into the frame so one can loosen and tighten the chain to the desired tightness.
I purchased this in an effort to quicken the harvesting process. Up until this uncapper I had only used a hot knife. I found this uncapper to be ok. For a one person operation running 50 hives I found it just slightly quicker than a hot knife. The frames almost always have to be run through more than once. Even so the ends of the frames are not uncapped forcing you to cut or scratch them open. The slitters themselves can become clogged thus tearing comb instead of allowing the desired slitting of the comb. I believe that improvements are required to make this tool fully functional and effective for the sideline beekeeper.
Not the Best Choice
With 35 hives, I thought that this tool would be a time saver, so I made the investment and purchased this uncapping machine last winter. After using it this season, I can say that Im sorry I paid so much for a machine that really doesnt save much time at all. I had to use a scratching tool to uncap almost every frame that went through the machine. The small, plastic cubes that hold the frames in place shift their positions too easily, making it even more difficult to get frames through effectively. I found that too much honey was left on the frames after extraction when compared to frames uncapped with a hot knife. My advice, save time and your money. Stay with your hot knife for uncapping.

The Sideliner Uncapper
OK -- I finally bought this machine--I looked and looked for reviews everywhere and came up with nothing--So now I have used this machine and am happy to post a review for ALL that are hungry to know about it. A ++ all the way I rate it. I have uncapped honey every way you can do it--over 50 years--cold knife--hot knife--hot plane--roller scratchers--needle scratchers--and chain uncappers--Well this is the easiest and less messy than ANY OTHER WAY. At the end of the day you well feel the difference and that is important at my age. It really does a good job and does not take long to become good at it. It does miss a bit at each side on fully filled combs but not enough to worry about. If you want a bunch of wax do not buy this--you do not get cappings using this machine--they stay on the comb. Built to last with reasonable care and appreciation for the machine.

works for us
We purchased this uncapper three years ago and really like it. We have 28 hives. While unevenly capped frames might need some extra scraping, we can easily decap 20+ frames in the same time as it takes for our 20 frame radial extractor to do its work, so things go quite smoothly. It is easy to clean, and we had no problem adjusting it so it works well and decaps both sides of the frame at once. Since it uses no heat, we can strain out the wax and have high quality honey from the uncappings. Actually, we get alot less wax then we used to when we used a hot knife, most of the wax stays with the comb on the frame, and not in the uncappings tub underneath the uncapper.
