A set of four plastic legs that attach to the Ultimate Bottom Board. To attach them, remove the feet that come with the bottom board, slip the legs in, and then re-attach the feet to the legs. With the legs in place the hive entrance is about 7-1/2" off the ground. There is a reservoir of a veggie oil to prevent ants from entering the hive.
I simply wired a bit of aluminum screen loosely around the leg and push it to the bottom of the cup. Make sure it doesnt touch the outer rim of the cup. Instant bee rescue which allows them to crawl right up to the bottom board but ants are still outside the moat. Works perfectly.

Does what it is supposed to do
Do I get some drowned bees? Yes. Does it stop the ants? Yes. If I have to choose between a handful of drowned bees or having the entire hive wiped out by ants - I lost two hives that way before using these - then the choice is simple. These legs are well made, do exactly what they are designed to do, and given what they are preventing, a handful of drowned bees is certainly an acceptable loss. I now have them for all of my hives.

fix for drowning bees
Absolutely love the ultimate bottom board. After adding the leg extensions I had the same problem with drowned bees, but really liked the additional height. I drilled a hole halfway up the cup to prevent them from filling with water every time it rains. No more drowned bees.

Not a good product
I had at least 100 bees drown in the first 24 hours after installing these legs. The only reason I did not lose more was the ant traps were completely full of dead bees. BMB Farm should pull this product right away.
