The Pail Feeder is a convenient feeder to use on the inside of your hive. Many people have used friction top cans that rust or glass jars that are cumbersome and break. The Pail Feeder is most effective by placing it over the hole in the Inner Cover. Place an empty Hive Body over it and the Telescoping Top in place. Then the hive is closed off from any outside robbers. The bees feed through the hole in the inner cover and because the inner cover is in place the heat does not escape, allowing the bees to maintain the correct temperature easily. Holds 1 gallon sugar syrup. Comes with lid.

Ive tried them all...frame feeder, boardman feeder, top reservoir feeders, etc. The old plastic bucket with screened hold still serves the purpose better than them all in my opinion. Just be sure to fill 1/2 inch from the top, turn it over not over the open hive so a couple ounces of syrup runs out and a vacuum is formed inside the bucket. Keep the bucket upside down to hold the vacuum and place on top of the inner cover with the screened hole centered over the opening of the inner cover. Be sure the vent on the inner cover is facing up to thwart robbing since bees from the outside cannot get to the syrup. When theres not much of a nectar flow...a strong colony can empty in 3-days! Replace as soon as empty or the bees will fill the screen holes with propolis which practically renders the lid useless. I wish BMBF also sold the lids only for this reason.

One gallon feeder pail
Highly recommend. A must for any small bee yard. I have used this product inside the hive and also outside. For outside, just use a few pieces of scrap lumber 2x4 to hold up pail. Place pail feeder on top so bees can get under. I would recommend feeding this way 300 yards away from hives. This will prevent robbing. I just fill them in the evenings. I also just add just one drop of lemon grass oil to my sugar water.

Too tall for medium 8 frame boxes
This feeder needs a deep box, deeper than the boxes that come with the beginners size garden hive. Make sure you have or get a deep box. Seems they should note this in the product description.

Winter hive killer !
Although well built and good quality, You cannot prevent it from constantly dripping. Do not use this feeder in your hives in the winter. It will drip and run down through your hives and we all know what happens to a wet or damp colony during the winter.
