Our good friend Bill Owens in Georgia developed this Bee Vac for his own use in his bee removal business. We have seen a lot of Bee Vacs and found this to be the best on the market. It is light and easy to climb up a ladder with it in tow, which, unfortunately in the bee removal business is necessary. Bill has solved the two worst problems of bee vacs: overheating of the captured bees and varying the suction so as not to kill the bees he has caught. His superior design has a removable collection chamber and a 1 gallon shop vac housed in a plastic pail. This is truly an exceptional bee vac. Comes with full instructions.
Owens Bee Vac will fit a North American standard 110 volt electric wall outlet receptacle.
Please Note: Due to size of box this bee vac, it must be shipped in it's own box, Must ship at the 45 lb. rate.
I bought this unit to get a swarm from a large bird house about 12 feet up a tree. There needs to be a safe way to climb a ladder to use the unit. Also the flimsy way to regulate the suction needs to be improved. What is on the unit borders on amateur engineering at best. Overall, I didnt think the vac was what I expected. A dangerous tool to use off the ground.

High End of Mediocre
Ive done over 100 cut outs and this little vacuum has come in very handy but its design leaves much to be desired, so much so that it renders it several accidents waiting to happen. The clasps on the cages are very flimsy. They can easily unlatch during removal and this would lead to a very bad end. The vac motor has no filter. It will burn out eventually and thats exactly what happened to mine - in the middle of a cut out! So just be aware of what your getting. If you order, rig up a filter and change the connections on the cages as soon as you get it. Also, the flimsy band that holds the hose to the bucket is a joke. Youll eventually need your own bungee. With these flaws, its definitely not worth the money, in my opinion. Improve it when you get it or make your own from dozens of designs online. If I knew all this before I ordered this vac, I would not have purchased it. Thats why I give it one star.
Owens Bee Vac
The present version of the Owens Bee Vac was purchased in early July 2014 from Brushy Mountain Bee Farm. To every ones credit, there have been no price changes since the 2010 published catalog. There have been at least three noticeable physical changes since 2010 which visually appear to upgrade each version.
The printed instructions, without pictures packaged with the unit, explain in part that, hearing the bees bouncing off the sides of hose...will create a mess. Standing less than five feet apart, my removal partner and I had to yell back and forth to communicate over the noise level of the machine, making hearing the bees... impossible. When I called Brush Mountain, no one in house had any information as to what might be done to abate the problem.
Next stop, Shop Vac since their name is on the handle of the unit. After a lengthy and informative discussion with an experienced Shop Vac technician, the conclusion was reached that the motor currently in use, while decibel legal, is simply noisy...and there is no fix.

This vacuum works great
I used the vacuum for the first time today. I decided to get it after the last swarm that flew away as I was trying to capture it. It works as advertised and does an adequate job. Dumping the bees out into the hive is easy, too.
My only complaint is that the instructions didnt have any pictures. I was kind of confused putting it together.
After using it today, I think Im going to get a long piece of PVC piping to use so that I dont have to stand on a ladder.
Bee vac - works ggreat if theres an AC outlet nearby
it works great as long as there is AC power near enough to run an extension cord for power.
Most auto Inverters are not powerful enough to run the bee vac. Those that are would cost more than the bee vac costs. That means one would have to bring a generator. I cant rely on there being an electrical outlet at the location of the swarm. I tried a Sears diehard inverter, but it wouldnt run the vacuum.

This vacuum is great. We used it on a cutout, and there were only five dead bees these bees were probably dead before being picked up the first time. The next time we used, there were no dead bees. Removing the bees is very simple. Excellent product.

simple and effective
The suction adjustment is easy and I especially like the additional baskets that can be removed as they are filled. No losses due to heat or tumbling.

Owens Bee Vac
I used this bee vac for the 1st time and it was great.
It is very easy to adjust the amount of suction you need.
You can take the top of the vac off and your bees are in a screened cage with plenty of ventilation.
