Slatted Racks help the colony with ventilation chores. Less comb gnawing, more brood nest and straight comb-pulling are attributed to this version of Dr. C.C. Miller's favorite invention. Our rack is placed over the bottom board and left on year round. UNASSEMBLED. (nails and instructions included).
The 10 frame slatted rack by Brushy Mountain comes across as a well thought out assembly designed in such a way to make assembly pretty foolproof. The kit is complete with everything you need except a little wood glue...for the most part. There were a few quality control disappointments, however. None of the kits I received contained enough nails to assemble the unit as outlined in the instructions. Not really a big deal, just a bit annoying to have to rummage around to find more to finish it. What concerned me a bit more was the excessive amount of splintering and broken tabs on the pieces. A couple pieces were missing rather large corners of wood...the areas were nails were to anchor. The self aligning tabs were handy with assembly, but as they are some thin and/or small, many were already broken off or sheared off during the assembly process. I think many of these issues would have been avoided with the use of sharper saw blades during the manufacturing process to avoid wood stress and ripping the ends out of cuts. Many of the cuts were quite rough. In the end I do like the design and final result, even with a few unexpected annoyances. Would I recommend it or buy another? Yes. I would just go into it knowing they are built for production, not precision. Still, I am thankful that Brushy Mountain provides this product.
